Hair Mineral Analysis – Why Take The Test?

Hair mineral analysis is undertaken for many reasons. Not only does hair show any toxins that may be present, but it can also be tested for mineral levels as well. Due to this we can find out why you may be feeling unwell when the Doctor cannot find any reason for it.

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis

Your hair stores valuable information about your health. A Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) looks at your overall well-being using the relationship between minerals and health. Analysing your hair in a lab gives a useful insight to not only your mineral levels, but also to any accumulated toxic metals (e.g. mercury, lead, aluminium). Often dismissed this type of test has 40 years of research to back it up.

Hair Mineral Analysis Testing

Hair Mineral Analysis is a remarkably simple test that uses a small amount of head hair. It is non-invasive and unlike many tests it is affordable for the depth of information that it provides. The results of this test identify current deficiencies and toxicities that are otherwise not easy to detect. It also speeds up the identification of others. Hair analysis roughly shows what has been happening in your body over the last three months. In contrast a blood test is a snapshot of what is happening at that given moment. Therefore, the hair test can give a clearer picture of your health.

Mineral levels are higher in the hair than in blood, so they are easier to detect levels. Hair grows fast so taking a sample of hair from the scalp shows what’s been going on over the last few months. The body also dumps heavy metals such as mercury, aluminium and lead into the hair shaft so realistic levels can be seen.

An HTMA will show up any hidden deficiencies, which may mean changes in your diet or supplementation regime if you want to improve your health.

You may not see a lot of metals in the test results to begin with as they can be hidden in organs. High levels of some metals prevent the body from being able to use various minerals, meaning there can be a disproportionate level of these in the HTMA instead.

HTMA provides information on:

  • At least 20 minerals
  • Deficiencies, imbalances and toxicities
  • Dietary Issues
  • Carbohydrate tolerance such as low blood sugar
  • Lifestyle imbalances such as stress
  • Gland health especially the adrenals and thyroid
  • Digestive health
  • Toxic metal status suppressed or exposed
  • Psychological and emotional stress such as anxiety and depressive tendencies

In essence, the HTMA test allows you to see what needs to be addressed. It allows me as a Homeopath to see what support you need with Homeopathic remedies to help your body get back to good health.

Heavy metals such as copper, lead, aluminium and mercury can build up in our bodies over a period of time and can lead to an array of fertility issues, although often with no visible symptoms. When a couple suffers from recurrent miscarriages, detoxing heavy metals is high on the list of improving health.

For females heavy metal toxicity can lead to:

  • Disrupted cycles
  • Low egg quality
  • Recurrent miscarriages
  • Common symptoms of mineral deficiencies
  • Regular digestive issues such as constipation
  • Feeling constantly bloated
  • Suffering from headaches and migraines
  • Feeling constantly tired
  • Slow metabolism causing weight gain
  • Muscles keep cramping
  • Appetite loss and stomach pain
  • Unable to lose weight
  • Over or under thyroid
  • Hair falling out

I hope this helps with understanding how the test works and how it may be of benefit to you. If you are interested in having a test, please contact me at my Hedge End clinic and I’ll be able to supply you with one. The price of £100 includes a zoom conversation explaining about the report’s findings and what course of action is required. Any supplements suggested or Homeopathic treatment are an additional cost.
